There are free Mastodon servers you can use, but either you have to have the technical knowhow to run one, or trust that whoever is running it isn’t farming your data.

And unfortunately servers, data storage and bandwidth is not free.

No free tier?

Unfortunately at this stage in the project it is not possible to offer free access to the server. We’re not gonna argue about whether or not €5 is worth it or not.
But until we have a bit of money in the bank or members on the Sponsor tier offering free memberships is just not viable.
